Nha Trang's Best Cultural and Historic Sights

Nha Trang is more than its beach. The city has striking cultural, religious and historic sites — perfect for a relaxed day of sightseeing.

Po Nagar Cham Towers

A Champa temple complex on the Cai River, built over several centuries and dedicated to the goddess Yang Ino Po Nagar. Ancient red-brick towers with fine carvings overlook the river mouth and Xom Bong bridge.

Hon Chong

Granite boulders piled on top of each other jutting into the sea, linked to many local legends. It's a lovely spot to view Nha Trang Bay and Co Tien mountain, especially in the morning.

The Stone Church (Christ the King Cathedral)

A Gothic stone cathedral on a small hill in the city, built during the French era. Walk up the steps to admire the bell tower and stained-glass windows.

Long Son Pagoda

An old pagoda at the foot of Trai Thuy hill, famous for the white seated Buddha on the hilltop looking over the whole city. Climb the steps past the reclining Buddha to the top.

Oceanography Institute

Founded in 1922, with marine specimens and tanks of fish, turtles and coral — great for families with children.

Dam Market

A big market with a distinctive round roof, the place for dried seafood, local specialities and souvenirs.

Visiting tips

  • At Po Nagar and the pagodas, wear clothes covering shoulders and knees.
  • Visit in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the heat.
  • The sights are close together but you cross busy city traffic — a private car saves time.
