Steady wind, a long beach and warm water all year have made Mui Ne one of Asia's best-known kitesurfing spots. Every wind season it draws riders from all over the world.
Wind season in Mui Ne
- Roughly November – April: the north-east monsoon blows steadily — the main kitesurfing season. The strongest, most consistent wind is usually around December – March.
- Midday – afternoon: the wind typically picks up from late morning and is best in the afternoon.
- Roughly May – October: lighter, shifting winds and calmer seas — better for swimming than riding.
For beginners
- Learn at a school with instructors and safety gear; a few sessions are often enough to get up on the board.
- Early mornings have lighter wind — good for practising kite control on the beach.
- Always ask your instructor about safe riding zones and stay away from swimming areas.
- Use water-resistant sunscreen, sunglasses and a sun shirt — Mui Ne's sun and wind are intense.
Bringing your kite and board from Saigon
Kite bags and boards are bulky and buses often limit large luggage. A private car makes it simple:
- 1 – 2 riders + gear: a 7-seater with a big boot and folding seats.
- Groups of 4 – 8: a 16-seater or limousine fits people and gear.
Door pickup in Saigon or at Tan Son Nhat Airport, drop-off at your Mui Ne hotel, one price per car. See the Saigon – Mui Ne price list.
No-wind days
Take the sunrise sand-dune jeep tour, visit Ke Ga lighthouse – Ta Cu mountain, or escape to cool Da Lat for a few days by Mui Ne – Da Lat car.
