Once you've seen Mui Ne's dunes, spend a day south of Phan Thiet. Ke Ga lighthouse and Ta Cu Mountain are fairly close together, perfect for one trip.
Ke Ga Lighthouse
Built by the French in the late 19th century on a small islet off Ke Ga cape, it's one of Vietnam's oldest and tallest lighthouses. From the top you look down over blue sea and sculpted granite boulders.
- Getting to the islet: take a boat or speedboat from the shore; at some low tides it's possible to wade across, but ask locals first.
- Best time: morning or late afternoon, avoiding the midday sun.
- Note: crossing depends on weather and tide; the rocks are slippery, so wear shoes with good grip.
Ta Cu Mountain
A green mountain with old pagodas and a reclining Buddha dozens of metres long in the forest. You can ride the cable car instead of hiking the steep trail.
- From the top station, walk a little further to the pagoda and the reclining Buddha.
- It's a sacred site — dress respectfully.
Add the Po Shanu Cham Towers
On the way down from Mui Ne, stop at the Po Shanu Cham towers on Ba Nai hill — ancient Champa architecture overlooking Phan Thiet.
Suggested day plan
- Morning: Po Shanu towers → Ta Cu Mountain (cable car, pagoda, reclining Buddha).
- Lunch: Phan Thiet specialities.
- Afternoon: Ke Ga cape and the lighthouse islet → back to your hotel.
The sights are a few dozen kilometres apart; a private car keeps you flexible, especially when timing the tide for the islet.
