Da Lat is cool all year, with daytime temperatures usually around 18 – 24°C — ideal for a 3-day trip. Here's a suggested itinerary for first-timers that balances sightseeing, food and rest.
Getting to Da Lat
- From Saigon: about 300 km, 6 – 7 hours by car depending on the route and time.
- From Mui Ne: about 3.5 – 4 hours on a scenic mountain road.
- From Nha Trang: about 3.5 hours via the Khanh Le pass.
For families and groups, a private car with door-to-door pickup lets you choose your departure time and stop whenever you need. See our route prices.
Day 1: The city centre
- Afternoon: check in, walk around Xuan Huong Lake and visit Lam Vien Square with its giant wild-sunflower and artichoke-bud structures.
- Evening: dinner and the Da Lat night market — try grilled rice paper and hot soy milk, and pick up strawberries and candied fruit as gifts.
Day 2: Cloud hunting and sightseeing
- Dawn: go cloud hunting on the outskirts, then visit the Cau Dat tea hills. See our Da Lat cloud hunting guide.
- Lunch: chicken hotpot with la e leaves or banh can rice cakes.
- Afternoon: Bao Dai's Palace III, the French-built Da Lat railway station and the mosaic Linh Phuoc Pagoda.
- Evening: coffee with a view of the city lights.
Day 3: Monastery and waterfall
- Morning: Truc Lam Zen Monastery above Tuyen Lam Lake — take the cable car over the pine forest — then Datanla Falls on the Prenn pass.
- Lunch: eat, buy local specialities and head home.
Tips
- Bring a jacket: early mornings and evenings are chilly.
- Avoid public holidays if you dislike crowds; if you travel then, book rooms and transport early.
- In the rainy season (roughly May – October) it often rains in the afternoon, so sightsee in the morning.
